A Community of Love, Connection, Healing and Growth
Our Village was born from a beautiful dream and a vision of pure love, healing, and unwavering support. In 2015, Nussy Munk zt”l and Sony Perlman, LMSW founded Arena Sober Living, which quickly became a beacon of hope for those desperately seeking an uplifting and caring sober community.
Following Nussy’s untimely passing, Arena was forced to close its doors in 2017. However, the glaring need for a recovery-focused, attachment-based community was as critical as ever, and lives were literally on the line.
So, in 2019, Sony – a seasoned, well-respected expert in the field, and the clinical director of Our Place drop-in center in Brooklyn – approached the Our Place organization with a wonderful idea: to reopen the sober living home under their umbrella. This conversation ultimately planted the seeds that blossomed into Our Village — our thriving, dedicated, and loving community for individuals on their journey of recovery.
At Our Village, we recognize that addiction is often rooted in a deep sense of unworthiness — the self-delusion that one is somehow undeserving or naturally lacking in value. Therefore, our approach is straight-forward and simple, yet dramatically transformative: we envelope each individual in a tremendous amount of love, truly nurturing them until their inherent worth begins to surface.

At Our Village, we recognize that true recovery isn’t achieved through tough love, rigid structuring, or trying to force change. The issue is not that people aren’t being pushed enough, but that they aren’t being seen, appreciated, and loved enough. However, when they can tap into the caring and deeply embracing support system that has become a defining trademark of Our Village, they naturally grow into their own strengths.
